Infographic: Children and Explosive Violence

Created for Action on Armed Violence

Analysing English-language media reports from October 2010 to December 2012, AOAV has identified at least 898 attacks in 41 countries that have killed or injured children. While Afghanistan and Pakistan were revealed to be the most dangerous places over this two-year dataset, Syria accounted for almost a third of all child casualties in the past year.

On average, 123 children have been killed or injured per month in 2012, showing a significant increase compared to the year before.

However, since the victim’s age is only reported in 16% of attacks, it is likely that many more children have been harmed.

This infographic visualises the devastating impact of explosive weapons on children’s lives.
